Brow Post Procedure Instructions

Aftercare is crucial. It is very important to follow the aftercare instructions for the full 14-day healing period to ensure proper healing and color retention.

Immediate Aftercare Instructions:

  • Starting the day after procedure cleanse brows 2 times a day (mornings & evenings) with Cleansing  Soap provided and Q-tips/fingertips, rinse and pat dry.  NEVER RUB BACK AND FORTH!!!

  • Apply Oil provided 3-4 times a day throughout the healing process, starting the day of procedure (if you run out of oil you can use grapeseed oil).  This should be applied in a thin shimmer not a gloss effect.

  • Follow this routine for 14-days

  • If brows become painful, red or oozy, please see a physician.  This could be signs of an infection.  It is normal to be sore and red right after but if it persists and gets worse; this is cause for concern.

  • Call or email me with any questions or concerns – 214.538.4933 – marla@allaboutthebrow.com

  • Please note I give you enough aftercare products for your initial appointment and your perfection appointment.  After the 14-day healing period place both tubes in the provided zip lock pouch and store in cabinet or other dry area.

Things to avoid post session:

  • Sunny vacations and the tanning booth! Excessive UV exposure will alter the pigment of your tattoo (please avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks; after 2 weeks apply SPF liberally to the brows).

  • Submerging brows in water (including but not limited to showers, pools, lakes and saunas). This is crucial so you don't wash out any pigment (try to avoid showers for the first 48 hours if at all possible; baths would be the better option accompanied by dry shampoo). After the 48 hours, you may resume showers but please cover brows with a rag to catch excess water from running down. Cleanse brows immediately after shower with provided wash.

  • Application of any products (other than those provided) on your brows.

  • Applying any makeup on your brows during the healing process.

  • Use of exfoliants, retinol acids, or AHA’s on the area for 30 days after the appointment (it can fade your tattoo prematurely).

  • Excessive sweating. Sweating may infect, discolor, or prematurely fade your brow tattoo. It is recommended to hold off from working out for at least the first 5-7 days (beauty blotters can be used to soak up excess oil post workout).

  • DO NOT get massages, facials, or skin treatments during the healing process.

What to expect during the healing process:

  • Redness or swelling is minimal and will subside within the first 48 hours.

  • After numbing wears off there will be a slight discomfort which is described as a ‘sunburn pain’.

  • DO NOT expect your brows to heal perfectly after the first session. This is a two (sometimes multiple) step process.

  • BE PATIENT during your 2-week healing process. Your brows will change and appear different from day to day, THIS IS NORMAL!

  • Immediately after your procedure brows will appear darker and more defined (this can last up to 2 weeks). Your brow tattoo can appear more solid, hair strokes may seem to ‘disappear’, and it may look wet and/or ‘painted on’. THIS IS NORMAL! The color will soften throughout the healing process.

  • Around days 4 & 5 you will experience scabbing and your brows may look dry and flaky. DO NOT PICK your scabs! Allow the scabbing to fall off naturally. If scabbing comes off prematurely, this may result in a patchy brow appearance.  (Not to worry, this can be fixed at perfection appointment).

  • Your brows will take up to 6-8 weeks to fully heal. When the scabbing comes off the brows may seem faint, this is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brow tattoo. Give your brows a few weeks and it will become clearer as the pigment resurfaces.

  • You may experience itchiness in the brows during the healing process and up to 2 months post session. This is due to the healing of the dermal layer. You may apply more oil as needed.

  • Not everyone’s brows can heal clean and crisp. Hair strokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal crisper and more defined.

  • When the skin flakes off, many times the microblading strokes appear very light or sometimes it seems that they have disappeared.  THIS IS NORMAL!  This is because there is still a thick layer of protective, opaque skin creating a veil over the pigment.  Once you go through a skin cycle (4-6 weeks) the pigment will typically reappear but will be about 30-50% lighter than it was immediately after the procedure.

Long Term Aftercare & Expectations:

  • Perfection appointment is highly recommended at 6 weeks to check healing and touch up any color.  If you do not come in for a perfection appointment within the allotted time frame you will be charged a full fee for color corrections after 8 weeks of original appointment.

  • Use at least SPF 50 to protect your brows. Sun exposure will cause fading and can alter the color of your tattoo.

  • Do not use chemical exfoliants on the brows. This will cause the brows to fade faster or change color.

  • Do not laser your brow area. This can darken, lighten, and distort the pigment.

  • As the tattoo fades, the strokes will get fainter and less defined.

  • Maintenance is required to maintain the desired results. Annual Color Enhancements are recommended every 12-36 months (depending on how your body metabolizes the pigment and your skincare routine) to maintain the integrity of your brow design and pigmentation. Some clients may desire to have touch ups earlier than 12 months.

You are being given these instructions in advance so that you have the opportunity to review them and be able to ask questions at your appointment.
